Care of Jewellery

Pearls now come in all shapes, sizes and colours so designing jewellery with them has infinite possibilities!

The worst things you can do to pearls and in fact all jewellery is:

  • Spray with hairspray or perfume
  • Excessive use of body creams, lotions and tanning products
  • Swim in them
  • Sleep in them
  • Mix them all together in a drawer or other storage facility

Best to spray perfume, hairsprays etc first and then put on jewellery.

Care needs to be taken when applying jewellery with gemstones in order that the item of jewellery is not dropped thereby chipping the stones.  Best to apply jewellery over a soft surface in case the item falls to floor.

Sterling silver jewellery can tarnish over time and keeping jewellery in a re-sealable plastic pocket may help to alleviate this.  Sterling silver can be cleaned effectively using a sterling silver cleaning cloth especially marketed for the purpose.  This can only be done gently so as not to damage the item of jewellery.
